Raise DC Staff and Operations
Apri Gassaway joined Raise DC in July 2016 as the Senior Director of Postsecondary and Career Initiatives. She is responsible for spearheading the work related to Raise DC’s high-level goals of postsecondary completion and career preparedness.
Gassaway comes to the organization from the YMCA of Greater Charlotte, NC, where she served as the Executive Director of Academic Outcomes & Community Impact. There, she partnered with the local association and national YMCA network to advance service delivery models in early learning, 3rd grade reading, and career and college readiness strategy areas. As a founding member, Gassaway spent five years at New Leaders in Charlotte, where she served as the Director of Development for the final two years with the organization. Earlier in her career, she worked at The Hunt Institute, whose mandate is to inspire elected officials and key policymakers to make informed education related decisions, as well as Upward Bound at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to achieve college enrollment and completion for low-income and first-generation college goers.
She has a bachelor’s degree in physics from Howard University and master’s degree in education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
