Director of College and Career Readiness, Division of Postsecondary and Career Education
Melissa McKnight is the Director of College and Career Readiness for the District of Columbia’s Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), where she is responsible for the development and implementation of all Districtwide postsecondary and career awareness, access, readiness, and completion initiatives. She also manages the development of data-driven tools such as an online system to measure DC students’ postsecondary outcomes, a secure site for high schools to access critical academic data on incoming freshman, and an innovative tool allowing high school staff to see student-level Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion in real time.
Previously, McKnight was the Chief of Staff for the District’s Department of Employment Services. In this role, she managed multiple divisions, including the Office of Youth Programs, the Office of Employer Services, and the Office of Strategic Partnerships. She also functioned as the Director’s chief liaison to the Office of the Mayor, the Council of the District of Columbia, and the City Administrator.
Prior to her time at the Department of Employment Services, McKnight served in various capacities at the District’s Department of Energy and Environment, Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Anacostia Waterfront Corporation. At each of these agencies, she supported the administration of grants, creation and implementation of new programs, and coordination of leadership efforts across agencies. McKnight has also served as a Special Assistant to the Director of Domestic Policy for the White House.
McKnight is a graduate of the George Washington University.
