State Board of Education
Following five years of service on the Dupont Circle Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC), i, Jack Jacobson was elected to the State Board of Education in 2012. Jacobson’s record of public service has focused on constituent services, public safety, cooperation among District agencies, and raising educational achievement in DC’s traditional public and public charter schools,.
As an ANC Commissioner, Jacobson acted as public safety liaison and served as the point person for the successful renovation of 17th Street. By convening business leaders and residents to facilitate constructive problem solving, Jacobson helped launch the Urban Neighborhood Alliance and the 17th Street Festival. He also founded DC Taxi Watch with a group of District residents to bring consumer perspectives to the discussion of taxicab rates and reform.
Passionate about education policy and strong, effective public schools, Jacobson supports the District’s efforts to improve school performance and served as a charter member of the DC Public Education Fund’s Young Professionals Council. Jacobson is a fierce advocate for public schools across Ward 2, and fought alongside the community to keep Garrison Elementary and Francis Stevens Educational Campus open during the 2012 school consolidation process. At Ross Elementary, he volunteered as a member of the Safe Routes to School program to help ensure all students can get to school safely by car, bicycle or on foot.
